Plage des Vergnes offers a truly unique sunset experience, with the sky turning an intense shade of red that may seem unreal. The unedited photos capture the surreal beauty of this natural phenomenon, making it a popular spot for visitors and even attracting cruise ships eager to witness the spectacle. This beach is highly regarded for its stunning sunsets and overall appeal.
Possibly the strangest sunset I have ever seen. It is so red that it looks fake.(Seen in May). I haven’t edited the sunset photos but even though it looks fake it’s not far off from what it actually looked like. Nice build ups so we could see how it looked like. Also very good descriptions of the history of the caves.

Very interesting place. The guided tour was Well organized. Unfortunately the tour was only in french. Therefore they had info cards for all the shown areas in several other languages, which where summarizing the main information, lacking of details.

Very beautiful and informative about the history of the region.
Alex L — Google review
Beautiful houses cut in to the cliffs, well worth a visit and good for children too.
Nicole M — Google review
Lots of steps but plenty of places to rest making the man made caves(Grottes) well worth the visit every çave had translated into English and German a short history - one of the most amazing things was the caves were still lived in until the 1980's
Gray W — Google review
Nice place. Actually these are not real caves but digged holes where the protestants tried to create their own refuge. There are many recreated rooms and historical postcards. The trip is available with or without guide and for each relevant place you can find a paper in english explaining the context. The view on the river Garonde is impressive. 5 euro to visit.

The Les Grottes de Matata hotel is a great place to visit for anyone interested in history and caves. The hotel has beautiful views of the Gironde estuary, as well as terraces with free Wi-Fi and a cave museum. The restaurant offers delicious crepes and is also exceptionally affordable.
Adorable Fantastic Place, Must Book, Amazing View Relaxing Place

This is just the best kept secret. Please don't tell anyone how fantastic the peace and quiet of the rooms over looking the Gironde are. They are immaculately clean with amazing balconies with the best views. Fantastic restaurants of Meschers are a twenty minute walk. This is my third visit, I love this place

Al met al mooie ervaring.(Translated by Google)Simple and clean room with private balcony; 5 stars for the view over the Gironde and the unique character of the place. Nice administrators. Enjoy a delicious meal at the crèperie downstairs and free access to the museum in the caves as a hotel guest. All in all a nice experience.

Adorable. Tiny hotel hanging off a cliff with only a few bedrooms. Very small bathroom, otherwise 5 stars. Breakfast served in the room. Quite a few stairs to negotiate. But adorable non the less.
Pat H — Google review
A great experience and well constructed exhibition-style historic site. The working hotel/bar & restaurant is very good value. Lots of narrow steep steps, so the less-mobile need to take care. Well worth 5€, including an audio guide.
Mike D — Google review
Museum isn´t very impressive. At the end of the tour, you end up in the creperie. However without reservation, you won´t be able to eat there...
Jeroen C — Google review
The visit to the caves was very well presented and we had individual head phones to learn about life there. At the end we ended up in the creperie so we stayed and had lunch over looking the Gironde estuary.
Ros L — Google review
Nice place near the river. The historical rooms and postcards are beautiful and particular. The real old "cuisine" is so beautiful. It's possibile to sleep amd eat in a creperie/brasserie within the matata on an romantic terrasse.
Marco M — Google review
Disappointing & overpriced food. Felt we were really paying for novelty of the setting.Weren't made to feel particularly welcome. Staff were more interested in the French customers. Shan't go back
Bazrob F — Google review
Great and calm visit, some time to wait to direct sunlight before going in. Audioguides are included with the ticket.
