    Rooney on Memphis

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney revealed he once gave Memphis Depay a "talking to" after he turned up to a game in a cowboy hat during his time at Old Trafford.

Firstly, you could never knock his work rate. In training, he worked really hard every single day in order to prove himself.

It was made more of a few things off the pitch I have spoken about.

I was at a reserve game once being a bit lowkey, and he turned up in a Rolls Royce and a cowboy hat. I had to speak to him, so that was Memphis.

    Ten Hag backlash Exclusive

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is in hot water with the club's hierarchy after revealing details of their Ibiza summit.

Ten Hag was on holiday in Spain when United officials turned up on his doorstep to ask him to continue as manager.

They also informed the Dutchman they had spoken to other candidates, such as Thomas Tuchel, but wanted to keep him on.

The 54-year-old was understandably angry with how he had been treated and the way in which this message was delivered when he was supposed to be on a relaxing break.

But new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are unhappy that what they thought was a private meeting was made public by Ten Hag on Dutch television this week.

The Red Devils want the ex-Ajax boss to sign a new three-year deal but that is understandably some way from being agreed as yet.

According to The Athletic, Bayern are expected to agree a deal with Palace after Vincent Kompany’s side contacted the Eagles last week to discuss the possibility of signing Olise.

The Blues also asked for permission to speak to the winger but decided against pursuing a deal due to financial demands.

According to reporter Nathan Gissing, the Frenchman wanted to be the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge and likely demanded over £325,000-a-week.

United, Manchester City and Newcastle were also interested in the 22-year-old.

    Lazio target Greenwood

Lazio have stolen a march on Juventus in the transfer race for Manchester United's controversial player Mason Greenwood.

The Serie A giants tried to sign Greenwood on loan last season after United chiefs ruled he needed to leave after he was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling coercive behaviour.

When the forward was made available for loan last September, Lazio president Claudio Lotito tried to sign him.

Lotito blamed the Red Devils for failing to complete the paperwork in time before the Italian transfer window closed, leaving Getafe able to swoop in for a loan deal.

The Manchester giants want £40million for the academy graduate but both Lazio and Juve believe they could strike a deal for around £34m with add-ons.

Mould inside dishwasher and rotting metal shelves found in Man Utd kitchen

Mould was found growing inside a dishwasher as grease was seen "dripping down a wall" while "rotting metal shelves" were discovered in a storage room at Man Utd, a Daily Mail report has revealed.

In a follow-up food hygiene inspection, Man Utd went from 1 star to 4 star rating, though a number of other issues were also found at Old Trafford.

The inspection report said: "The club has undertaken a lot of work since this (the prior inspection), however, the continued demonstration of the implementation of revised procedures is required to enable the confidence in management score to be increased further."

Man Utd were handed an ‘A’ for compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures but only earned a ‘C’ for compliance with structural requirement and a ‘C’ for confidence in management/control procedures.

A club spokesperson said: "As the report states, significant improvement work was undertaken by the club to increase our rating to 4-stars between November and February.

"This is an incremental process, and we are confident we will regain our 5-star rating at the earliest possible opportunity."

Man Utd warned over Zirkzee transfer

Man Utd have been warned they could be making a major mistake by signing Joshua Zirkee from Bologna.

It was reported Man Utd bosses had entered talks with the Serie A side to sign the 23-year-old who scored 12 times last season.

But former Netherlands international Bryan Roy thinks better of the move.

Zirkzee, unlike [Teun] Koopmeiners, is not yet ready for the big jump.

He is still young, he needs another year at Bologna where he can score a lot.

It would be important to test himself in the same team but with a different coach. Then he will think about what to do.

    Rashford's agent slams Southgate

Marcus Rashford's brother and agent Dwaine Maynard has slammed Gareth Southgate for his exclusion of the Man Utd ace at the Euros.

After a below par season Rashford was dropped from the England squad and failed to even make the provisional 33-man squad for Germany.

However, it was argued that despite his poor form, Rashford offered more balance to the team from the left than other attacking options.

And after scoring two goals in two games with drabs displays, Maynard has been led to believe Rashford was the solution.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "It's hard to sit and watch when you honestly believe your man could make a difference."

Man Utd fans fume after Southgate midfield comments

Man Utd fans were left flabbergasted after Gareth Southgate declared: "We don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips," after a less than impressive display from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Reacting on social media, fans said: "Playing Trent Alexander Arnold OR Connor Gallagher in midfield when you’ve got Mainoo sitting on the bench is insane."

A second said: "Kobbie Mainoo, England's most promising young midfielder and Cole Palmer, last season's Premier League's Young Player of The Season left on the bench when Spain's 16-year-old Lamine Yamal is cooking for them at the Euros."

Another said: "Southgate has Eze, Palmer, Gordon, Mainoo and Wharton all on the bench and the first sub you make is to bring on Gallagher lol."

A fourth said: "Only Southgate would put Mainoo in the press conference then pick the same team as Sunday..."

A fifth added: "Such a hardship for Southgate when Phillips was effectively usurped at City by John Stones and Rico Lewis, two England internationals. Lack of courage not to entrust Mainoo, an actual midfielder, on the back of one performance. And to not turn to Palmer."
