  • Content Leak: One YouTuber leaked the Sidestory song "Catfight" before DDTO+'s release, though mentioned that it'd be the only song they'd do so for.
  • Dummied Out: Monika's pixel sprites before the Plus update are still in the game files, but are unused.
  • Exiled from Continuity: DusterBuster has statedDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (1) that he won't be adding FeMC (Female MC) into the mod. The reason being due to complications of having to make separate vocals for her in place of the regular MC.
  • He Also Did: During the development of the Plus update to this mod, DusterBuster also created a separate Friday Night Funkin mod, known as Flavor Rave, that depicts a pair of musicians of clashing genres coming together to try and keep the show going between alternating audiences. Following the release of the Plus update, Duster will also go on to create his own FNF overhaul with the team, Friday Night Funkin' Desync.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • Due to controversy with the song's composer as explained under Role-Ending Misdemeanor below, the version of the mod with "Dreams of Roses" was taken down and the song was replaced and never brought back, meaning people who want to play that song will have to resort to unofficial mirrors.
    • This trope also applies to the original versions of the Prologue songs, as well as "Duel Demise", "Poems n' Thorns", and the "Glitcher" cover, as the Plus update replaced them with new remakes.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Grant Paulsen provides the speaking voice of Senpai in the official video dub. His singing chromatic is still voiced by Kawai Sprite.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content:
    • The lyrical cover of "Epiphany"Doki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (2) by Juno Songs has been officially confirmedDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (3) to become playable in the upcoming Plus update, unlocked after beating the regular song.
    • Following the release of the final trailer for the Plus update, DusterBuster gave fans a week to create fanart for the mod, with art he especially likes being added to the mod's gallery. Of course, in keeping with Bad Ending remaining a separate mod, any fanart for that submod will go in its own separate gallery instead.
  • The Other Darrin: Monika's voice here is provided by Carimelle instead of Jillian Ashcraft.
  • Promoted Fanboy: In addition to their lyrical cover of "Epiphany" being made playable in the Plus update, Juno Songs became a part of the mod's dev team to help out with the game's artwork. The new "Epiphany" art is demonstrated well in the music video, which uses updated sprites for Monika. Their work also shows in the new art seen in the Encore and Protagonist weeks.
  • Referenced by...: Monika’s mod was featured in the Friday Night Funkin' Logic episode “Friday Night Funkin’ but Anime”, as Player is transported to the mod in the middle of a Hatsune Miku concert. Monika returns in the episodes “Boyfriend Gets A Fan Club” alongside Sky and Sarvente and “Girlfriend Breaks Boyfriend’s Heart” alongside Hex and Garcello, where she and Senpai give Player advice on love.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Diffraktor, the composer of the "Dreams of Roses" song, was outed for being in a sexual relationship with a minor. As such, the team behind the mod cut ties with them, and the mod was temporarily taken down until they found a new composer to make a new song, that being "Bara No Yume".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Amongst concept art for the menu animations, aside from Sayori hugging Zipper, there's also art of her hugging Pompom and Bob (the latter with Little Man on top of her head). One with her hugging Benjamin was also conceptualised, though no art currently exists for that idea.
    • There was planned to be a language select for the Plus update, but this had to be scrappedDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (4) due to the difficulty it would cause.
    • Due to a controversy involving the charter for the Plus update, the charting was redone, and the planned Easy and Normal difficulties were scrapped to make things easier for the new charter.
    • Because of Sayori's worries about the Protagonist becoming a NEET in DDLC, HighPoweredKeyz originally wanted Sayori to be the Player Character of the Protagonist's song "NEET". But since "You and Me"Spoiler Note wasn't planned at the time, it was decided that BF was given the standard role in "NEET" to avoid perceived favoritism of one girl.
    • GGalactical, one of the composers of "You and Me", wanted to have a fifth variation of the song where the Protagonist would stumble his way through the song on his own if none of the four girls were chosen in time, but nothing came out of the concept, with the final result instead being a Non-Standard Game Over.
    • HighPoweredKeyz revealed that "Shrinking Violet" was originally meant to be a bonus song for Yuri against Boyfriend, exploring what it would've been like had her week gone without the ominous glitches. After Duster voiced his approval and wanted it to become a full song, DatDavi leant his assistance, which made the song what it is now. The early demo of the song can be heard hereDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (5).
    • This threadDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (6) reveals some more scrapped content for the mod.
      • The remakes of "High School Conflict" and "Your Demise"note were originally going to be Free Play-exclusive songs, though were reworked into the Prologue week
      • Due to one Side Story slot being blank at the time, Duster brainstormed ideas of the Dokis meeting the mainline FNF cast (with icons for Pico, Skid and Pump and Tankman showcased). This never made it far into development before it was scrapped, but this idea of giving a different FNF character the spotlight, alongside the premise of having a song around writing poems, is what led to the concept and creation of "Love n' Funkin'" in the end. The final update for the base mod did add the characters back in, albeit as alternate playable characters for "Love n' Funkin'", "Shrinking Violet" and "Baka" respectively in Free Play.
    • The Protagonist was planned to have more costumes, originating from the likes of A.G.O.T.I. and Gold, the former scrapped for personal reasons and the latter scrapped due to Duster's decision not to include creepypasta content in the mod.
    • "Datastream", the Bad Ending song for Monika, was pitched as a concept by Matt to DusterBuster, though wasn't approved. This eventually led to Datastream itself being made into a whole separate mod on its own while still connected to Bad Ending.
  • Word of God: According to this threadDoki Doki Takeover! - TV Tropes (7) made by the mod's creator:
    • The Prologue week takes place after Act 3 of DDLC and after Week 6 of FNF.
    • Doki Doki Literature Club! and the Hating Simulator both exist as video games in the FNF universe.
    • Girlfriend is the one that played DDLC and got the idea of importing Monika to Hating Simulator, though Monika is unaware she did this.
    • Neither Senpai nor the Background Freaks remember what happened after "Roses" in the base game. In addition, despite now knowing his true nature, the Background Freaks still adore Senpai because he's hot.
    • Monika has no knowledge of Spirit, and them singing together in "Dual Demise" is just fun non-canon shenanigans.
