Man Reports Damages Property And Assault

On July 5th, Joseph Maddox told Summerville Police that a white male was on his property without permission. Maddox said he confronted the man and told him to leave and that the male demanded to see a woman he believed resided there. Maddox stated that he knew the woman but that she didn’t live there. The male then became angry and knocked out the front porch screen door, hit Maddox in the nose, knocked his wheelchair over on the porch and punched the glass window out. All of this was recorded on video that the police later saw. Maddox gave a good description of the male and vehicle that he left in.

Rumor Of Mid Georgia Prison Break Unfounded According To GDC

Yesterday, Georgia Department of Corrections Director of Communications Joan Heath said Johnson State Prison received an anonymous call from someone who said they saw someone running toward a wooded area near the prison on Friday. The caller said it appeared they were running away from the facility.

Historical Society Meeting To Focus On Tooga Theater Tomorrow

The Summer meeting of the Chattooga County Historical Society will be held tomorrow, Sunday, July 14th. The topic of this quarter’s meeting will focus on the historic Tooga Theater in downtown Summerville. Also, a discussion will be held about the ongoing renovations at the historic theater. The Tooga first opened its doors in 1947 and continued in operation as a movie theater for over forty years. The building then served as the headquarters for the Chattooga County Shrine Club until it was purchased by the county in 2015 by former Commissioner Jason Winters. The meeting will be held on Sunday, July 14 at 2 PM at the Historic Summerville Depot. Meetings are open to the public.

Man Arrested After Trying To Hide Drugs

On Thursday of last week, Joseph Clark was pulled over after swerving lanes multiple times. The responding Deputy noticed open containers of miller light in Clarks passenger seat and asked him if he had been drinking to which Clark said no. Clark eventually admitted to only having one beer. The deputy then searched Clark and noticed his body language was off. A small plastic bag with a white substance in it fell out of Clarks pocket, he then tried to kick it under his vehicle to hide it. The deputy then tried to place Clark under arrest but he had to call for back up as Clark tried to resist him. After backup arrived, Clark was finally placed into custody and arrested on charges of failing to maintain a single lane, possession of methamphetamines, and obstruction of law enforcement officers.

SongFarmers Of Summerville Meeting This Weekend

The SongFarmers of Summerville will meet this Saturday, July 13th, from 1 PM until 4 PM at the Fairway Recreation Center on Senior Drive in Summerville. The free event will feature old-fashioned “front-porch pickin’. ” Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join in, and audience participation is always encouraged.
